What’s the easiest was to open a bottle of wine?

“Always carry a corkscrew and the wine shall provide itself.” Basil Bunting
Today’s post will focus not on a particular varietal or blend but, on a variety of ways to open your next bottle of wine.
There are a wide variety styles based on your comfort in handling everything from a waiter’s corkscrew to and electric wine corkscrew.
There are 5 types of corkscrews that I’d like to highlight:
Waiter’s Corkscrew
Air Pressure Wine Opener
Lever Style Corkscrew
Twist Corkscrew and
Electric Wine Corkscrew.
Waiter’s Corkscrew – this is the standard corkscrew that sommeliers and restaurant personnel use. It’s small, fits in your pocket, has a small pocket knife for removing the wine foil and is relatively easy to use. If you’re comfortable holding your wine bottle in one hand and using a water’s corkscrew with the other and a little muscle power this is one of the most reliable tools available. Waiter’s corkscrews range in price from $2 to $70 depending upon the features and quality of material.

Air Pressure Wine Opener – this is an innovative design that uses a CO2 cartridge to pop a cork out with relative ease. Each cartridge can open 80-100 bottles before needing to be replaced. It’s a very fast way to remove corks. The Air Pressure Wine Opener generally start around $30.
Lever Style Corkscrew – this corkscrew remover easily fits around the neck of wine bottles. With a simple push and pull of a lever the cork comes out of the bottle and dislodges from the tool in under 5 seconds. This corkscrew remover starts at $40.
Positivevines Helpful Hint: The Wine foil at the top of each bottle should be cut off before you attempt to remove the cork. It’s easier and when pouring wine you avoid contamination from any wine touching the foil.

Twist Corkscrew – these corkscrew removers basically are twisted into the cork and pulled out. You can purchase single twist corkscrews or corkscrew removers with “bunny ear” that are pushed down to pull the cork up. Either one takes a little muscle. The Twist Corkscrew is priced from $2 to $50.
Electric Wine Corkscrew – this corkscrew remover is one of my favorites. You simply put the tool over the cork, push a button and in less than 5 seconds the cork is out. Push the button in the opposite direction and the cork comes out of the tool.
