Sparkling Rosé for the Summer

Sparkling wines (Champagne, Prosecco, Cava) and Rosé wines are two of my favorite go-to selections year round. Rosés are high in abundance during the summer months as they are a delicious treat to drink alone and with the lighter summer food selections. Combine the two and you get a crisp, bubbly summer treat. W. Donaldson’s 2014 Sparkling Rosé, distributed by Nakedwines.com (www.us.NakedWines.com), is an excellent treat at a solid price point for the offering.
For those of who are intrigued by the Nakedwines.com name, this is a company that supports the efforts of smaller winemakers in moving their wines from concept and the vineyard to you- the consumer. Some of the winemakers have been affiliated with larger operations such as Barons de Rothschild and Francis Ford Coppola. This is their time to see their name and label on bottles of wine that they’ve specially crafted. Nakedwines.com sells these wines through their Angel program which gives consumers the ability to invest $40 per month. The funds are invested in small winemaking operations around the world and the Angels have a chance to experience new wines each month at a reduced purchase price.

W. Donaldson’s Sparkling Rose is produced in Sonoma County, California. This is a dry sparkling wine with hints of strawberry and cherry both on the palate and the nose. Hints of rose petals are also evident on the nose. There is a slight touch of sweetness that is not at all intrusive. The bubbles are similar to a Cava in that they aren’t overwhelming and hold up through the timeline of finishing a flute of this sparkler. This is a solid wine to enjoy alone or with seafood and light salads.
Wayne Donaldson, formerly of Domaine Chandon, is a noted winemaker with over 27 years of experience crafting the finest champagnes and sparkling wines. Angels save considerably in purchasing this wine. It is normally $33.99 per bottle and Angels can order it for $19.99. If the 2014 is out of stock, consider ordering the 2015 vintage.
