Elevated Wine, Easygoing Vibe at Cooper’s Hawk

Elevated Wine, Easygoing Vibe at Cooper’s Hawk

On a recent trip to Kansas City to visit family, we made a stop that became a highlight of our travels—Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant in Lee’s Summit. Cooper’s Hawk’s has a reputation for pairing approachable elegance with exceptional wine and cuisine, and our visit lived up to the buzz.

The space struck the perfect balance between casual comfort and upscale polish. The décor was warm and inviting, with rich wood accents, modern lighting, and just enough bustle to create an energizing yet relaxed atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can dress up for a celebration or come as you are after a day of sightseeing, and you’ll fit right in.

Cooper’s Hawk operates on a concept that blends a full-service restaurant, a Napa-style tasting room, and a wine club under one roof. It’s an experience designed for discovery. Before we sat down for our meal, we made our way to the tasting bar—a lively spot where guests can sample an impressive range of wines guided by knowledgeable and friendly staff. There were 3 tastings Lux, Variety and Sweet. Each tasting recommened 8 wines. And if you want to substitute 1 or more varietals, just look on the back of the tasting sheet and chose what you’d like.

The tasting was where we started to appreciate the depth of Cooper’s Hawk’s wine program. We started with the Blanc de Blanc, a sparkling wine that was crisp, bright, and celebratory in every sip. It set a cheerful tone for the rest of our visit. Next came the White Meritage, a beautifully balanced blend that combined richness with a refreshing finish. On the red side, the Cabernet Sauvignon impressed us with its bold flavor and smooth tannins—a classic done exceptionally well. We rounded it out with intriguing pour – Nightjar– a dessert wine with lush, layered notes that made for a decadent treat. Each wine had its own personality, yet all shared strong craftsmanship and consistency.

When it was time for lunch, the extensive menu made it hard to choose. The culinary offerings range from hearty pastas and perfectly cooked steaks to lighter seafood dishes and inventive appetizers, all designed to pair seamlessly with the wines. This thoughtful integration of food and wine is what sets Cooper’s Hawk apart—it’s not just about having a great glass of wine or a great meal, but about the way the two enhance each other.

Show up with friends, grab a tasting, swap a couple pours for what you love, and let the team point you to the right pairings. It’s an easy yes for date night, family visits, or a catch-up with the crew.
