As Mardi Gras and Cinco de Mayo approach, my thoughts turn to easy to make cocktails that feature easy to blend ingredients made more vibrant by the addition of sparkling wines.
I recently had the opportunity to sample TX Honey Bourbon at my local Total Wine in Plano, TX. A twist on the margarita was created by adding Stirrings Margarita mix. While good, I wanted to make it exceptional and with a little sparkle. Try my recipe below and let me know what you think.
Note: While I suggest my favorite brands, I was not compensated for use of any of these products.
1 oz Stirrings Simple Margarita Cocktail Mixer
1 oz TX Silver Star Honey Liqueur
1/2 oz Cointreau
Chilled Prosecco to top off the cocktail (approximately 2 ounces)
Rimming Sugar- I like Stirrings Cosmopolitan Sugar
Chilled Margarita Glass
Place 1-2 tsps of lime juice on a plate. Dip the margarita glass rim into the lime juice and then dip the rime of the glass in the rimming sugar. Make sure to give it a good coat.
In a cold cocktail shaker add the honey bourbon, cocktail mixer and cointreau. Shake lightly and pour into the chilled margarita glass. Add a slice of lime and top off your cocktail with Prosecco. The tang of the Margarita mixer, the sweetness of the Honey Bourbon and the fizz of the Prosecco will give you a cocktail that will delight your guests at any gathering. Fair warning – The TX Honey Bourbon is 70 proof so this is a drink that will give quite a kick!
Remember to drink what it is that makes you truly happy and always think positively!
